Carte de visite of A.J. White and Berry Photograph Gallery & Orville Gillett standing with his hand on the printing shelf in his shirt sleeves. Gillett, a resident of Tuscola, Michigan, was 28 years old when he enlisted as a Corporal on September 10, 1861, at Tuscola, Michigan. Gillett survived the Civil War. The photograph is part of a group of images collected by Orville Gillett of the Third Michigan Cavalry which was stationed at De Valls Bluff, Prairie County, Arkansas, the winter of 1864-1865. The Third Michigan Cavalry was part of the Union Army during the War Between the States or Civil War.
